Thank you to everyone who attended the event. It was a wonderful day and all our visitors created a lovely atmosphere. We were very fortunate to have such excellent weather and also to be able to share out day with Michael Wood and his team filming for the BBC. Hopefully some of the footage will make the cut and everyone can relive the day when it is broadcast.
The special souvenir edition of the parish magazine,
'Open Field' has a colour supplement this month which will be
distributed to subscribers free of charge this month. The event was very well attended on a beautiful day. There was a lovely atmosphere of a real country day out. The organisers have received many compliments since the day for providing such a varied and interesting programme. The most frequent comment was that having come for a couple of hours, people were still finding things to do at the close. Michael Wood and his two man crew spent the day with us,
filming for a series to be shown on BBC2 before the Queen's Diamond
Jubilee next year. Michael has filmed in Laxton since 1984, when he
recalls 'capturing some fantastic images, with Laxton under a light
dusting of snow'. He enjoyed catching up with old friends and was
thrilled to be able to plough two furrows with a team of horses and
discover just how hard it is. His crew would agree having had to follow
along the developing furrow at some speed while managing to keep filming
and recording. The team's presence gave an extra excitement to the day -
especially for a visitor who had come specially from Devon and who went
home with an autographed programme and a photo with her 'pin up'! The final total raised as a result of everyone's efforts and generosity was £4,100 and Laxton PCC would like to express their gratitude to everyone who supported the day in any way. If you would like to be added to our contact list to be kept updated about future events, please contact us with your name and the name of any group you represent. Funds raised by the event
will be used for the support of the church of St Michael the
Archangel, Laxton and other Laxton community groups |
